Word Plug-Ins

Many companies and law firms use individual Word plug-ins. They use address databases, for example, to automatically insert the creator of the document with his name and initials at the appropriate places in the document. By a reasonable construction of your layout, you have the possibility to use this functionality also in your LAWLIFT documents.

These instructions are based on the assumption that your plug-in inserts the respective information via bookmarks.

If you are in doubt about the functionality, please contact the developer of your plug-in or our support at support@lawlift.com.

Identify bookmarks

First of all, you have to identify the bookmarks your plug-in is targeting. To do this, open a document that uses the plug-in's functionality. Via "Insert" > "Bookmark" you can see which bookmarks are contained in the document (Please also refer to the Microsoft support instructions). Via "Go to" you can jump between the bookmarks in the document and thus identify which information is inserted in connection with this bookmark.

Make a note of the bookmarks you also want to use in the letterhead template.

Inserting bookmarks in layout

Now open the layout of your template. Via Insert > Bookmark you can now insert the just identified bookmark at the appropriate place. Note that the bookmark is assigned the same name that is used in the previous document. As soon as you have added this bookmark to this position, the plug-in is able to recognize and control this marker.

Use within LAWLIFT

Now save the newly created layout in your LAWLIFT template. The bookmarks will be preserved when exporting Word documents from LAWLIFT. After executing the plug-in in the exported document, the information stored is inserted at the place of the bookmarks. The information was inserted via the plug-in.

In individual cases, it is possible that initial filling is not possible. In this case, please contact the developer of your plug-in so that the plug-in can recognize a LAWLIFT-generated document and execute the command to automatically trigger the bookmarks. For this purpose, a LAWLIFT own document property can also be created so that the plug-in can recognize that it is a LAWLIFT document.

These properties, if stored in the layout, are also retained during an export.
